The Special Investigators of the department of Social Services
are mandated to: detect, investigate and prosecute, where
appropriate, instances of abuse of Social Services Programs;
assist in the recovery of debts resulting from investigations
conducted by the branch through criminal and judicial processes;
reduce and control abuse within Social Services Programs by
identifying and recommending program changes based on
investigative findings. Their primary objective is to identify
clients who are receiving assistance to which they are not
entitled as per Legislation and departmental policy and, as a
result, suspend cases from pay and recover resulting
overpayments.
