Introduction of fees for certain services
provided by Environment Branch
BACKGROUNDER
In an effort to help cover administrative costs, the
Environment Branch has decided to charge fees for certain
services that are currently provided by the Department at
no cost to the public.
While it is expected that the fees will be derived from
services such as approvals, authorizations and licences
relating to the management of water resources, and solid
waste management certificates of approval, it has not yet
been determined which services and what the cost will be.
Although the Department will begin to charge fees for
these services, it is expected that the fees will not be
onerous for individuals in the public.
The Department has not charged fees for these kinds of
service in recent years. The practice was curtailed
several years ago.
This practice is currently operating
in other Canadian
provinces, such as British Columbia.
The Department has chosen this option over having to
reduce the level of service currently provided by the
Department.
