BRINGING NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR BUSINESS TO THE WORLD
The Province's participation in national and international trade missions, conferences and exhibitions is an effective way to increase our exports, attract new investment to the province and facilitate new joint ventures and strategic partnerships. The Department of Industry, Trade and Technology sponsors an annual program which brings participating local businesses to global venues to promote export and investment and present Newfoundland and Labrador as the right place to do business.

TRADE MISSION UPDATE:
The Province led a trade mission to Iceland and Ireland in November 1997. Also in January 1998, the Province participated in the Trade Team Canada Mission to South America (Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Argentina).
Several local businesses participated in the Iceland mission. Nu-Way Kitchens, Classic Woodworks, Hi-Rise Maintenance, Lotek Marine Engineering, Nautical Data International, International Communications and Navigation, and Newfoundland Containers, returned with invitations to submit proposals to interested counterparts in Iceland.
In January 1998, the Newfoundland and Labrador delegation participated in a 12-day Trade Team Canada mission to Latin America. Thirteen local companies, educational institutions and organizations visited Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
Participation in the Team Canada trade mission provided valuable opportunities for Newfoundland businesses. Genesis Organic, a Corner Brook composting company signed a joint venture agreement with Fondasion Chile to develop a $2 million dollar waste management facility in Chile using Genesis technology. Genesis Organic converts organic wastes such as wood bark from the mill in Corner Brook and fish wastes from the fish plants and transforms them through composting into soil conditioner.
